NGC2359 (Thor’s Helmet) - full frame version
NGC2359 (Thor’s Helmet)
Taken: Feb. 4th, 2008 at Area51
Camera: SBIG ST2000 XCM
Telescope: Orion ED80
Mount: Orion Atlas
Twelve 8 minute frames (1.5 hours of exposure)
Calibration, Alignment and Stacking with CCD Stack
Finish work in PhotoShop - this basically amounted to rotating the image 180° to make it recognizable and captioning.
This object is much smaller than how it is listed in “The Sky” software – I want to shoot it again with my 9.25 SCT because I will be able to use the full frame from the CCD chip using that OTA instead of needing to crop the image to show off the subject as I did with the ED80. Here is an uncropped version so you can see what I mean. The Sky said this image should almost fill the field of view with the 80mm scope – it was very wrong about that.
