I’m a totally new person to astronomy. I’m 65 years old and just started reading about outer space. I think it’s fascinating! I know I’m asking a lot, but are there any educational courses that you know about that perhaps I can go to?

Deborah thanks for contacting us. There are a few sources on the web for free Astronomy courses. Coursera.org search for Astronomy there are several unfortunately the one called Introduction to Astronomy already started but check if you can still enroll. These are free and only unless you really want to do the homework it will require a bit of time and effort on your side as well as some math. Nevertheless since it is free you do not have to do the homework and only attend the lectures. It also has group discussions to help with homework with other students etc. These are provided by some of the best universities in the world and are usually the same courses they give to first and second year astronomy students. Another good source but these are paid is a website called www.thegreatcourses.com. There are a few there that you can look at they come both in DVD as delivered online. These do not have homework they are only lectures you can whatch anytime. If we find something else we will keep you posted.
